During the press conference which was held on Friday 13th August, in Port Louis, the GSEA publicly announced that its representatives would stop representing aggrieved workers before the Public Bodies Appeal Tribunal until further notice.
This decision was taken following intimidation and humiliation to GSEA representatives and members by the Chairperson of the tribunal . According to the president of the GSEA, Radhakrishna Sadien, this situation has been prevailing since quite some time and renewed on 12th last. The GSEA representatives have a long and rich experience before Workers’ Commissions and Tribunals and such ill treatments have never been known.
The GSEA looks forward to meeting the Prime Minister and apprise him of the situation and propose some amendments to the legislations governing the above body.
FIRE SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Furthermore, in the above press conference, certain issues regarding Fire Services Department were also raised like the amount of time off following night duty. The representative of the Fire Services Branch, Mr Sauterrelle also addressed the press on that occasion.
